ACUG--Analogue Cine User Group

Any Ninefivers on APUG?

Joined the flocks of nine-point-five-millimeters film users definitely by purchasing a GIC 9.5 camera. Films I have since years, many rolls of stuff I’ve never seen projected. Now I’m seeing a 9.5 projector that interests me.

Is there anybody else with a weakness for the format? Film Ferrania have 9.5 perforators, they ought to make P30 for us, what do you think?

I had never heard about this format... Is it any better than 8mm or Super-8 in terms of frame stability?

Hey, fdonadio, good question. In fact, 9½ mm film shows remarkably good steadiness thanks to the pulling in the center. It has been used in cinema theatres with professional equipment and strong arc lamps. Optical and magnetic sound has been added, the first optical sound projector being the Pathé Vox of 1937. I have a Diksi-Tfp. combination 16-9½ projector from 1938, unfortunately without the 9½ gate. It needs an overhaul. I had worked with such a machine, complete with the original tube amplifier in a small cinema back in the 1990s. The image looks like 16.
