advice, please, on having S8 digitized

#1
Years ago I made an ~1100 foot epic on S8, now want to have it digitized. The two most likely appearing vendors are https://www.filmtransfercompany.com and https://www.pro8mm.com. I'm looking at a 2k scan with film restoration, don't want poor results. Not gonna be cheap. The cost of anything but best light or log timing is, um, daunting.

If I missed a decent vendor, please tell me.

Any recommendations, advice, suggestions?

I'd be surprised if anyone told me to avoid pro8mm, don't know about filmtransfer.

You might try contacting the Film Photography Project. They have a scanning service that charges $30 USD per 100 feet for 2K transfers on a Lasergraphics Scanstation.

I would assume that is a best-light scan, but could be wrong. Never used them myself, but am familiar with the Scanstation and it's a good scanning platform.

Contact Mike Rasso and talk it over with him as to your requirements and he might be able to work out something with you.

As for Pro8mm, from what I can see they are very, very expensive, but I have no personal experience with them.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. You're right, Pro8 is pricey, always was. I'll call Mike to find out what he can do for me.

I regularly have used filmphotographystore.com for my 8mm scanning, I have been very happy with their scanning and turnaround time.
