AI/AIS Nikkors

New to Nikon.

#1
Well, I'm new to Nikon. I've been a Pentaxian for decades, first film and then digital. My first foray into Nikons was a good user S2 and a few lenses. Then a Nikonos III, then a F2, again a user, then a virtually mint F3 highpoint with the motor. I now have the 24mm f2.8, 35mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4, 50mm "macro," 105mm f2.5, and 300mm f4.5. Phew! As Pentax Pete notes the lenses dismount in the wrong direction. My first impression of the F3 with motor: My Gawd! This is a big, heavy beast of a camera! especially compared to my Pentax LX with winder. The F3 should be a good defensive weapon, should the need arise. I like Nikon, but I'm not giving up my many Pentaxes!

I got : Black Paint NIKON FM ( I touched up all the Brassing- ) a Silver Chrome FE, an 'Old' Nikkor H 50mm f2 BUT a MINT Micro-Nikkor 55mm f2.8!! and a 'series E' 28mm f2.8. I will show some snaps in the PHOTOS section --

Fifty Something Lenses
by Narsuitus, on Flickr

The 55mm f/3.5 Micro Nikkor (center) is one of my three sharpest Nikkor prime lenses (180mm f/2.8 and the 105mm f/2.8 micro are the other two). It is my lens-of-choice when shooting close-ups and macro.

The 8-element 50mm f/1.4 Asahi Super Takumar (left) is my personal favorite 50mm lens. It is a manual focus, screw-mount lens that came with my Pentax Spotmatic SLR body. When shooting theatrical performances with black & white film, it was my lens-of-choice. Loved this lens so much that it was decades before I felt the need to buy a 50mm Nikkor.

Since this thread began I've acquired a Nikon F4 with a really clean f1.4 lens. My Gawd, what a beast! It would make a wonderful weapon, sure to disable an assailant. Hmmm.....I have a Tamron 300mm f2.8 Adaptall with both Pentax and Nikon mounts, and the Tamron 1.4 extender. The Tammy and the F4 should be quite a combination. Not to mention the Tammy on my "new" Pentax K-1ii, quite a heavy beast itself. For what its worth the K-1ii with the auxillary battery grip and the F4 are about the same weight.

I envy you the 8 element f1.4 Super Takumar. As I understand it was intended to be the King of all f1.4 lenses regardless of maker, but it proved too expensive to make in large quantities, so it was discontinued. ROI and all that. "Sic transit gloria mundi," as the Romans said.
Imagine its return in as a K mount autofocus.....Sweet!
