Canon EOS 35mm Group

Checking the pulse

#1
I'm just wondering if the Canon 35mm group is dead or not. I went through and looked at the membership list and discovered that of about 180 in the list, only about ten percent have been active in the past year. The last discussion was started almost five years ago and got zero responses. Is this an indication that film is in fact dead? Am I all alone in my love for shooting with my EOS 7s and soon to be EOS 3?

I just shot 6 rolls this weekend between my Canon 10s and Canon A2. A mix of birds, macro, and landscape. They consistently deliver top-notch images and are a pleasure to use. They're certainly not luxurious or classic, but it's awesome to use image-stabilized lenses and quick AF while shooting film. I use them almost exclusively when I shoot 35 mm.

And talk about value; I got my Canon 10s for $10! I also got a silver Rebel with kit lens for $15!

With regard to your final question, there's at least two of us.

Hmmm... I thought there was some discussion about FD lenses a few months ago -- but maybe that was the FD lens group rather than Canon.

Anyway, I'm quite fond of my Elan 7NE and even the Canon Rebels - they're so much fun to use.

I still like my Elan 7s (a 7 and a 7e), but I don't often shoot with them, I'm not sure why. Usually I'm carrying a 5D2 and Leica M3.

Thanks for the replies. It's nice to know that there are still people who are still enjoying film. I got out of it for a long time when I "upgraded" to digital with an EOS D30 back in 2002. I started to pick it up again in 2016 when I began collecting classic Pentax manual focus gear. Because of my aging eyes, I recently decided to give EOS film cameras a try since I have a decent assortment of Canon glass, so I picked up an EOS 7s (7ne). After shooting it for a couple weeks, I was intrigued, so I just ordered an EOS 3 that should be here on Friday. I'll be picking up a 100' roll of Ilford Delta 400 soon and can see myself spending a lot of time in the darkroom in the weeks to come.

To those of you still shooting film, are you doing your own developing? Are you uploading your work here somewhere?
