How Many Canon FD Cameras Do You Own?

#26
Canon FD, my first manual focus camera was a Canon AE-1, sold it in 2005 to focus on Nikon, then the mount reentered my collection.
So currently I have:
1xFTb
2xFTbn
1xEF
1 first generation F-1
2 1980s vintage F-1, one with the AE prism and other eye level prism.
and of course regarding the AE-1, I bought another one had it for a year didn't really bond with it and it got traded for some Olympus lenses. Last year a friend gifted me a black AE-1 Program which is light years ahead of the original.

I never got the A-1.

All the while I say I'm a Nikon guy at heart.

In 1986 I bought a new AE-1 Program as my only Canon camera, and that's where I would've stayed were it not for APUG and Ben mentioning the EF a few years ago.

After a bit of research, I found a beautiful EF.

Then I found an FTb at a swap meet for $10 (perfect condition).

This year I bought a mint F-1N with AE finder and motor drive.

So now my FD collection is complete for me.
I didn't tell you wrong, Dave the EF ( Black Beauty ) is a very underrated S.L.R it has the same build quality as the F1 with shutter priority AE, a hybrid electromechanical Copal Square shutter, a mirror lock, and 1/125 sec.flash sync speed. Good condition examples of this remarkable camera can still be found fairly cheap if you shop around.

Good collection. I assume you'll eventually add an F-1N. Do you have a favorite that you use?

I think my four Canon SLR's are all that I'll have. My AE-1P has had a lot of film through it.

For me, as a photographer (I'm not a collector) the only Canon S.L.R.'s I really would miss as working tools if I didn't have them are my four Canon F1's ( 2 F1n's and 2 F1-N AE's ) some of which I have owned for more than thirty years al;l of which I bought second hand that are all in excellent condition that to my knowledge have never been serviced, but whose light meters I have just checked out against each other with a Kodak Grey Card and a digital spot meter and they all agree with each other within a quarter of a stop, which I think is phonominal for cameras that are up to forty odd years old..

I just part exchanged my Canon T90 and 300TL fash, ( because I don't remember the last time I used them ) for a mint Canon FD 20-35 f3.5L zoom they had in a local camera store, a lens I have always wanted and will use regularly.

I part exchanged my T90 with the 50mm f1.8 lens and 300 TL flash( I hadn't used for years ) for a mint condition Canon FD 20-35 f 3.5L in a local camera store for lens that I have lusted after for years that I will use regularly, and reduces my holdings to 2 F1n's, 2 New F1's and an EF.

I compared the weight FD 28 -35 f3.5 L zoom lens with the weight of the combined weight of my prime FD 20, 24, 28, and 35mm prime lenses and the difference was about four and a half pounds which are considerable because of my rationale which was to reduce the weight of my walkaround gear because of my advancing age and only carry one or a maximum of two lenses like the 20-35 and the FD 35-105 f3.5 zoom in a small bag.

Great group of users and gear tallies!!! A fun read. I wish I could add as significant a contribution as many of you have. I really haven't started until fairly recently, despite having begun my love of 35mm photography over 40 some odd years ago. I have the A-1, w/ MA motor drive, F-1n plus motor drive and AE finder, and lastly the AE-1P with winder. Several FD and FL legacy lenses. All cameras are great fun and in wonderful condition!

I'm surprised that the EF isn't mentioned very much on the internet. For example , it's nowhere on the otherwise excellent MIR site. However I'm starting to see the EF mentioned more frequently than even a few years ago.

I recently sold the Canon Motor Drive FN for my F1-Ns because it adds so much weight to my camera with the 12 AA batteries it takes with my advancing age I can't lug it about anymore, also with the current and possible future price of films I can't afford to run it.

In the past, it was an overlooked (ignored) camera.

Then it became an appreciated camera.

Today, it's an overrated camera. I woulnd't place it on the top 5 fd cameras, really. (btw my top would be:smile:

1. Canon New F-1
2. F-1
3. T-70 and T-90 (tie)
4. A-1 and AE-1P (tie)
5. FTb, AT-1, TX (tie)
