Hi,
I'm new here. I live in central NJ, and recently had my Dad's old Contax iia cleaned up and I've been running some film through it. I have one roll of Tri-X ready to process and one roll of Kodak 400 just back from the photo shop. Believe it or not we have an actual 1 hour photo place near by.
The plan is to try semi-stand developed caffenol, probably CL(CS) but there are two adjustments I'm going to need help with:
1. House is cold so a pint of water on the counter or in the bathroom settles to around 16C. So what is the recommended adjustment factor? Googling tells me 10-20% per degree Celsius so that's close to double the stand time. Or is it a different adjustment factor for stand development? Or should I consider using the microwave to bring everything up to 20C and put the tank in the oven with the light on. I didn't check ambient temp there yet. I wanted to do CL(CS) but since house is so cold the temps will never rise. Unless I try the oven which just occurred to me this morning.
2. It's an old camera and the shutter is clearly off for 1/500. First two rolls were almost all Sunny 16 so shot at F/16 and 1/500 sec. I assumed that higher speeds would be more accurate but Contax's are funny that way and in hindsight I should have started with slower film and 1/00 sec, and bracketed more. First color roll is underexposed by 1 to 2 stops. So can I push Caffenol and by how much?
In short, I need to extend develop time for both a cold house AND possibly underexposed film. Am I "pushing" my luck?
Thanks
Bill
