Coffee Developers

Old mix still works?

#1
I have used a mix prepared one month ago, I developed 3 rolls of 24 exp 35mm Arista Premium. The first roll was developed while the mix was fresh, the second roll when it was 1 week old, both were OK. The last roll came out almost blank (yet I got a few usable imeges after scanning), even after increasing developing time.
It was Caffenol C-L with iodised salt.

Has anyone else used old mixed Caffenol? How did it go?

hi

i always use old caffenol, i hve never used the mixture you used but i add a teeny bit of stock ansco130 to my coffee soda vit c mixture.
as a matter of fact i removed about 1L of old 4month old caffenol that i put maybe 100 sheets/rolls through ... and put in another L of caffenol into
the seasoned mixture. i will be processing film with it in the next few days. never had trouble .... maybe yours died because it was not a lot of developer to start with?

good luck !

Caffenol developers are pretty cheap, why not just mix what you need for that session and use it one shot.

Somone posted - years ago! that they stored Tripple Strength Caffenol - in separate containers, and that these kept and worked well for a month. Curious about this, because the other (besides money) and of greater scarcity for many of us is time. Adding three or four liquids together and topping up with water is extremely efficient compared to measuring out each time. Anyone else have further information on this sort of approach to convenience?

CL or CLCN can't be prepared in advance, because it is so weak it cannot be kept for long. I tried one time to reuse CM but the dev time has to be adapted or the second film will be less developed...
I always prepare soda, vit C and coffee separately with a little bit of hot water so everything is completely dissolved. Then I add refrigerated filtered water to bring the temperature down and mix them together with a filter.
After that I put the film(s) on reel(s) and then I start the prewash and development.

hi skip
i don't use fancy caffenol just eyeball measured, tablespoon measured and re-use it for months before i get rid of it. i mix it at room temp, no filters, just mix and use
never had and never have problems of things not dissolving. i don't do triple strength, the problem i have had is that sometimes evaporation causes stuff to come out of solution so i just remove it and march forward. triple strength sounds good, i sometimes drink triple strength coffee so im sure my film would love it too
