Contax / Yashica

New to this group

I don't know how I overlooked this group, since I have a Contax IIa with the 1.5 Sonnar. It came with the original Zeiss Ikon lens cap, a little dented, but who cares! I've since scored the X synchronizer (What a kludge for synchronizing flash!) and the ever ready case in excellent condition.
My Contax is in lovely condition, hardly any signs of wear. Advance Camera in Portland OR gave it a CLA and the shutter whirrs smoothly, the VF is clear and bright; all's well with the world.
Since Nikon copied the Contax lens mount - but with enough difference so that lenses above 50mm won't focus properly - I can share the Voigtlander 21mm and 35mm lenses between my Nikon S2 and the Contax. To be honest the Nikon is an easier camera to use, since it has a rapid wind and the viewfinder is larger and life sized.
But the Contax has a "feel" perhaps unsurpassed by any other camera. The fit and finish are superb, almost jewel-like, the controls work smoothly and precisely, the camera feels as if it has been carved from a solid block of metal. Given the Contax' weight it might as well be solid metal! The Contax is as much a tribute to a by-gone era of precision manufacture as a photographic instrument. As such I feel to some extent that I am its custodian as well as its owner.

The Contax iia is one of my favorite cameras. It is dense feeling, but very precise in operation. Since I talked about it in this Group, I have since also picked up a Voigtlander SC Skopa 21mm f4 Skopar. That lens on the Contax is one of my favorite shooters. I feel like I am stepping into the photograph when using it. I also have a CZ 35mm f2.8 Biogon, a Niikkor P.C 105mm f2.5 (Contax mount) and a 135mm Sonnar (1937ish). The 21mm and the 50mm f2 Sonnar are the most used by far. I also have the synchronizer (mine is a black dial, I suspect yours is also). I used it once just to try it out, and it is kludgey at best. I got this pretty cool shot though (50mm f2 Sonnar + flash):
