How to make a negative from an old print

#1
Hi there group,

My neighbour came to me with two beautiful prints of herself, taken some 40 years ago. One of them is a little torn but they are the only pictures she has of herself from that age. She asked if I would be able to make new prints from them. I have never done this before, but I guess that I have the following options:

1. Scan the pictures, repair them in Photoshop, print them out as negatives onto 8x10 clear sheets and make contact prints
2. Scan the pictures, repair them in Photoshop, print them out as negatives onto 4x5 clear sheets and make enlarger prints
3. Take photos of the photos and print them.

Does anyone have any advice or can you confirm what I think is probably the best way of going about it?

Many thanks.

1. Scan the pictures, repair them in Photoshop, print them out as PRINTS.

I have done this numerous times and find it works best for my purposes and abilities. If you do not have a printer you can always take the repaired file and have a print made from it directly or through many on line services. Just make sure you've scanned it at a decent ppi so you can make a good sized print.

You're quite welcome. I've done this process for a buddy who has some ugly old Polaroid shots from when he served in Viet Nam. He is really happy with the repaired files. I gave him the files and makes prints for his family members.
