You beat me to it... I was looking for a place to make the comment, "Ah, Marc, it's not a 'group' when it's just you and I!"
By the way, I like the avatar. I was trying to think of something appropriate and I think you've nailed it. Also, thank you for the exclamation mark at the end of the group name. We definitely need something to represent the excitable little Photrions lurking about the place!
Great, APUG (sorry, Photrion) Melbourne is still alive!
It has been rather quiet here recently. My excuse is a transition to digital photography (oh no!) for most of my shooting (Nikon D500). But I still run the occasional roll film through my Pentax and Linhof cameras.
Great to hear from you Joachim - I hope you and Zhen and the little fellow are thriving!!
There was some chatter earlier in the year about a get together later this year - especially if Oxleyroad is back from Detroit for a bit... so I'm hoping everyone is keen. It has certainly been a while!
I'm still coming back for a short visit at this stage. Arrive 15th Nov and leave 1st Dec. Bringing some Detroiters with me to row in the Melbourne Head (Sat18/11) and the Head of the Yarra (Sat25/11). At this point I'm really only free week days or Sun 19/11. I have to fit in a trip up to Mildura as well.
Hope something can be arranged that fits in with majority and my schedule. I'm bringing at least one still camera and the Bolex
If anyone wants to see the largest gathering of 8 seat rowing boats in the southern hemisphere the Head of the Yarra is it, Approx 240 crews race the clock starting down near Flinders Street Bridge all the way up stream to Hawthorn, Bridge Road Bridge. My wife and I convinced enough Detroit Boat Club members to follow us out to row as an international crew.
OK all, Need to try and catch up with whom ever I can. Right now my social secretary has me almost fully booked, but I want to catch up and weather permitting take some happy snaps. I have rowing competition Sat 18th Nov and Saturday 25th Nov. Saturday 25th Nov will see Detroit the USAs oldest continuous rowing club come down under and be the first crew from USA to compete in Melbourne's (and the southern hemispheres) biggest rowing event. Enough of that. I can't take pictures and catch up with folks while on the water.
So can anyone catch up Sunday 19th Nov or Sunday 26th Nov?. I won't have a vehicle as my wife and the other Detroiters will have the vehicle so need to either stooge a ride from one, or be able to meet up where public transport will take me.
Wish I could have come, most of the remaining Melbourne site went over. 3 Boeing 737s of Holden people. They would not pay for me to go over from here.
Head of the Yarra. Today 250+ eights on the river racing the clock from city to Hawthorn at 15sec intervals from 10am. I’m in boat 93 leaving the city at approx 11:38am. Try as I might I just cannot work out a way to get my cameras into the boat to take pictures. Oh well next time.
