Get together?

Looks like the boys up in Washington are planning a small informal gathering at Tully's coffee. I thought maybe some of you in the Portland metro would like to do the same? Something simple like a Tully's or lunch. Bring prints to share, cameras and stories.
Let me know and we'll set a date.

Oh, good grief.

What have John_Nikon_F, the Flatulent1, and I started?

Robert, you may need to come up with a catchy name to generate additional interest. Perhaps "the First Annual Autumn PNW-Wa-Id-SoJ Kaffe-Klatsch". Or not.

There's no 'the' preceding my nick, Ralph, that would be rude. I write it as I do as more of an advisory.

I'm terrible at coming up with names! Let's see? How about "coffee and photos in portland" ? Or "Prints, plates and paper cups" ? Or "I 'll show you mine if you show yours"?
Ralph, you did start something.

"I 'll show you mine if you show yours"

Go with that one...print up some fliers and make sure to remind everyone to bring their cameras. See what kind of response you get. :eek:

I'd be in for an informal get-together. Won't have much to share picture-wise, but it'd be nice to meet other APUG'ers in the PDX area.

Well, Greg.
I figure I would be thrown in jail ASAP if I followed thru with show you mine if you show me yours plan. So, I'll skip it. Do you think a meet up at a coffee house or a eatery be good? I would like to meet somewhere with nice light to look and share photos or simply to chat. I was thinking of the Raccoon lounge or something like that. You have any thoughts? I would love to hear what others have to suggest as well.

OK - I have come in late on this --- I have done a little searching but don't see a "where" or "when". I possible, I would like to meet up and put some faces with the names I see here on Apug.

Well, Dan, you're practically half-way in between the Seattle group that's thinking about getting together somewhere near Kenmore Camera, and what Robert and others have been batting back and forth for down here. There isn't a where & when for Portland, yet.

@Robert--I've only been to the Raccoon Lodge once, but my memory is not of a place with "nice light". What about public meeting spaces in Vancouver or PDX through the Parks department or the libraries? There's usually a nominal fee, but I don't think it's that much. Could do lunch or dinner socially before or after. You did a thing at the Beaverton Library a few weeks back, no? What did you think of that space? The one big rooms I've been in there has great natural light. Don't know about others. The facilities in Vancouver at the Firstenburg Center look pretty decent (haven't seen them in person, though).

Needs to happen soon, though, IMO. Before everyone gets swallowed up by the holiday hustle.

Good morning, all;

Special note for Dan in Enumclaw, John in West Seattle, Ken in Monroe, and all of the others in the Latte Land area who have not been included in the direct e-mail messages;

There will be an informal gathering of some APUG people tomorrow, Wednesday, 2011 November 23, at 3:00 PM at the Tully's Coffee Shop at 6702 NE Bothell Way on SR-522 and 67th Avenue in Kenmore. This is just diagonally across the street (67th Avenue) from Bob Donovan's Kenmore Camera store at 18031 67th Avenue NE between SR-522 and NE 181st Street. (Yes, a short block.) If you can come out to Kenmore tomorrow, we would love to meet some of the other APUG people who are here in the Latte Land area. And, if you feel like wandering across the street to look at some of the nice toys, or to just pick up a roll of film or two, that would be OK too. I like looking through their older manually focusing film gear. See you there?

Sorry, I will not be able to make it to the get together tomorrow. I am going to be on the road heading to a family Thanksgiving get together. I appreciate the notice and hope you will keep me in mind for the next meet-up.

Good morning, all;

Let us start with; "Happy Thanksgiving Day!"

Matt and Gayle King and I did indeed meet inside the Tully's Coffee Shop in Kenmore yesterday at 1500. A nice time with discussion about photography, people, APUG, the Vancouver Olympics Winter Games, border crossings, and a few other subjects. We have photographs showing our presence. Matt and I also visited Kenmore Camera. They are holding a Minolta lens for me until I return with sufficient money to complete paying for it. This was a long day for Matt and Gayle; they crossed the border at about 0800 yesterday morning, and they probably went back over at about 2000 or 8:00 PM last night, a 12 hour day just in the U. S. of A.

Matt also handed to me a camera that is to be passed along to Fred, and now I see possibly Lisa and John also. I am not sure what we are doing with "Traveling Camera 8.1," but I will see to it that it does go to Fred for his intended work with it.

The sun is coming up right now, and the clouds have not only their normal grey color, but also some areas of bright pink and orange. Lots of nice color. No more Kodachrome, alas.

Enjoy;

Good morning;

Followup report on the APUG Gathering at Tully's Coffee Shop in Kenmore:

Mission accomplished. The "Traveling Camera 8.1," a Nikon LA35AF camera, was delivered to the next person on the list for his use in the program, Fred, or flatulent-1.

And I payed for and picked up the Minolta MD ZOOM ROKKOR-X 100-500mm 1:8 lens. Before this lens went home, it was mounted onto one of John_Nikon_F's Nikon bodies to show him that there can be harmony in some photography camps. Yes, the little adapter does need a glass corrective element in it to achieve infinity focus, but it still was fun seeing a Minolta ROKKOR lens on a Nikon body. I might even try the combination here with film to see what real differences there may be when the lens is used with that adapter. One obvious difference is the weight.

Good morning;

There is some discussion on a different forum about having another small coffee shop type gathering in the Portland, Oregon area around the time period from 2011 December 18 to 2011 December 21. I have no further information right now other than the time period.

Good morning, Greg;

Actually, no. At this time, it is in the form of a group or collection of individual e-mail addresses where something else was being discussed, and it has developed into the idea of having an informal gathering in the Portland, Oregon area, similar to what we had up here in Latte Land at the Tully's Coffee Shop near Kenmore Camera. My thought in posting this notification was to get something out there as quickly as possible to let people around Portland know that something is probably coming. I know that I will be down there in that time period, but a couple of those days are already filled for me. One of them involves needing some nice weather to tryout the recently rebuilt engine in a Cessna C-172.

Others who might be interested also include Robert Brummitt, Dennis Purdy, and a few others known to be in the Portland area. I might even be able to drag along a couple of the people I will be visiting.

Enjoy; Ralph, Latte Land, Washington

Oh that's right, Ralph. Tease us!
Tell us that you heard a group of photographers are setting a date at a coffee shop then pull the rug out from under us.
So far December has been a busy month for me. I organized, framed and hung a cell phone show of high school students, organized a photo shoot of ABATE ride. That's where 2500 bikers ride to Shriners hospital to give toys and money. Then I was a Santa photographer for my fellow Shriner staff party.
Yep, I have been busy. But if anyone wants to get together and talk shop, share photos and maybe do some photography? I'm willing to work something up. As long as I get to invite friends.

Good morning, all;

It really is morning here in Portland, Oregon right now. Last night around 1900 PST or 7:00 PM our time, the LAN was put back together and Internet access was restored. I know, it has been a trying few days, and I am recovering from Internet withdrawal symptoms.

We are still working on a place and an exact time for a small informal gathering of APUG people here in the Portland Area. It will be this evening, Wednesday, 2011 December 21. One reason for the choice of this evening is that I must drive back to Latte Land, tomorrow. So, others who have better knowledge of the area than I do have been asked to choose a coffee shop or something similar with convenient access to the highways and reasonable parking for a place for us to gather. We are working actively on this.

Enjoy, and Merry Christmas;

Ralph, normally in Latte Land, Washington

Good morning;

The informal gathering in Portland that I had hoped for is not to be on this trip. I am sorry. It just seemed to be something that could not be worked out for this trip. I will try again, possibly next week.

Enjoy, and Merry Christmas;

Ralph; Latte Land, Washington
