This is a great shot of a magic place.
Unfortunately, it seems I have a bad Karma for it.
The first time I went I strained my ankle and had a hell of a time getting back to the parking lot.
No negatives were exposed.
The second time I hiked in about 3 miles and discovered I had left the tripod in the car (had 4x5 equipment)
Finally, my third time 2 months ago: The Owners of the land, The Navajo Nation, had placed fences and I was afraid to get into trouble if I trespassed even though there were no signs.
I gave up.
Your photo will have to do
That does indeed sound like some bad karma. Hopefully you will still be able to revisit sometime. It is a magical place. I have forgotten stuff also. A sinking feeling. I was trying to find the cracked eggs feature out there, but pretty much got lost and found this composition while wandering around. I did find the cracked eggs the next day, but didn't get any good shots. The light was too harsh.
It's a place that has been on my list. I know what
Gaston means about the fences, however, the Navajo are very friendly people and if you can ask to go past the fences, they may let you in.
Hi Jim; I could not agree with you more, Navajos are great folk but, when it comes to land, all humans get a bit protective.
There are no people there, it is one of the most desolate places on Earth, no water, no trials, and no cell coverage.
The way these new fences were laid makes it hard to advance to where the good stuff is and, since they are not posted, you can indeed legally go over them, it just makes it harder to hike.
To you and all visitors, if you venture beyond the parking lot you MUST have on you:
2 liters of water.
A good compass (cell phones are useless there) A GPS is better! Make a waypoint tof the entrance
Very good boots and, most importantly:
Do not forget the tripod!!!!!!!!!!
