Well done, you should be very satisfied with the result, the detail is good, although more depth of field would have been helpful. May I suggest that you frame it so that you have something to judge your future progress by.

It was difficult to see in colour what I was trying to achieve. I don't start the course until Feb 2005 and I really wanted some ground work done. My friend Graham,(who also contributes to this site) really helped me achieve this shot by suggesting the venue and then asking me, what did I want from the shot.
I was pleased that the bridge was appealing with the arches over the river. It wasn't a particularly big bridge and on the other side of the river was private property.

Good first effort.

Do you use a tripod? I'd agree with Dave that more depth of field would help here, and a tripod would let you get a longer exposure with a smaller aperture. If you add a neutral density filter, you could get a very long exposure--a few seconds at least, which would record some motion in the water, making it lighter with respect to the bridge and making more of a contrasting texture between the water and the stone.

If this location is convenient to you, it would be worth revisiting. You might wait for a day with well defined clouds just to get more white into the scene.
