Upon entering the Los Osos Oaks Preserve, one immediately goes under protective cover from the giant live oak canopy to find a bridge that spans Los Osos Creek. Just on the other side of the bridge is a very massive oak over 1000 years old. Long ago an equally massive wind storm laid the oak on its side. Roots ripped clean from the sandy earth. But massive oaks have a great spirit to live within, and this oak determined to live life sideways and to continue growing. The exposed roots altered into a gnarled tree trunk. Enjoy!
