Another image from my expressive flower series. Am not totally happy with the lighting on the right calla lily ( i think its the shadow of another leaf inside the lily) may try some additionaly burning/dodging to see if it helps. Wanted to post to see what others thought.
Hmm. . ..
Actually, I like the shadow .. the curve of it's outline tells my eyes that the lily is round... which informs of depth...
I can understand also that it's "strength" detracts a bit from the play of tones in the overall image...
If it would work out to dodge the shadow's upper edge to break up the margin, you might be able to create the same kind of lines formed at the top of the left specimen.
Good luck... I do find the overall image to be both elegant and delicate in the same stroke... and I LOVE the use of space. . . actually, the SHAPE of the negative spaces the positive figures creates. .. the shapes echo the lines of your subject .. . ah! and that oh-so-delicate touch of the one lily to the other...
Once I noticed that little touch, I immediately looked at the tip of the right lily, and wish that it were light all the way to the very end... it's delicacy would make such a nice echo of the tip of the one on the left.
Thanks Noah for you comments, you 'get' what i was trying to achieve with the image.
When i get into the darkroom i am going to try various approaches to try and improve the image.
