The White Satin

Locomotive outside Amalgamated Sugar in Twin Falls, ID. Apparently it's brought out only for special occasions, although it was merely by coincidence that I happened to be there when it was outside its shed. Trying to decide whether I like Ilford Delta Pro . . .

  1. Yes
Nice shot, but the native contrast of a physical print is absent. Maybe try going into the curves tool, grabbing the lowest point (shadows) and drag it about 1/3 of the way across (to the right) without lifting it, to increase contrast and shadow density.

If the above was your intent, ignore my suggestion...

I went back and forth between "bright" or "boosted shadows." Bright won out. But thanks for the suggestion.

OK. Delta is one of my favorite films, but sometimes I feel it is "too good", for lack of a better term. The contrast is a bit too uniform throughout the entire curve; which ironically is supposed to be what an ideal film should be!

I've just posted a revised version to the Technical Gallery. I've noted there the changes I made to it. I appreciate the constructive criticism. I think I like the "curves" version better too, except that to my eye it reduces the detail in the stacks.
