On the same walk that I shot "Somerset Sunset", I came went past the local community shop. They'd put the Christmas lights up in the window. Those lights, with the reflected glow of the sunset (which can be seen in the windows and by the colour of the stonework) really caught my attention.
Looks great. Your exposure has caught everything correctly which can't be easy at that time of day given that the houses either side of the Christmas shop and the sky must have quite a large reflectance difference from the inside of the lit shop
May I ask what part of the picture did you base your esposure on? Thanks
Magic hour at its finest. I've long felt that English village architecture is the best of the lot--much more photogenic than the grand houses of the quality. Very nicely framed and exposed, and congratulations on mastering the wall-for-a-tripod technique!
@pentaxuser - I don't really remember what I based the exposure on. The Mamiya 6MF uses a centre-weighted meter and with the 50mm lens it's pretty wide. I think I probably based it on the wall next to the shop... and then hoped! The thinking would be that the lights would be a few stops brighter but Portra 400 would cope with that.
@pentaxuser - I'm a total convert to Portra 400 (and Ektar 100 for that matter). I'll be posting up more images over the forthcoming days taken with these two films over the Xmas break...
