Did you use a filter? I am not really a fan of the black sky AA technique. But I think in this case a little bit darker sky toward the top would have given this print more character. As it is, is nice but a bit bland for my taste.
Hmmmm... The sky looks similar to the one in my last gallery post.
I think that the green was a good choice. You've had plenty of experience with that subject but Jorge's comment made me wonder... what would a green + polarizer have looked like?
Neal, that is my combo of choice for filters with 400 TMX, partly because of the ugly extra red sensitivity it has and partly because it has a beter response to the trees and grass.
Neal: This was taken on Sunday when you made your water lily image. Regarding filters: I couldn't get the green, the polarizer and the NDG on at the same time (the green and polarizer are screw in, the NDG is glass rectangle in a Cokin P mount) so this was an experiment.
Jorge: I was thinking of this as very pastoral and undramatic. As this is a work print, it'll be worth trying a graduated burn to see if it still retains that mood. As it is, the foreground is made at 2.5 and the sky was burned for a third again as long at grade 5.
I've bicycled and driven through that area several times and it ain't no yosemite. But what it lacks in drama is made up with simple pastoral beauty that is fast becoming rare in this part of the country. I can attest that John is doing an excellent job of representing this disappearing landscape photographically. I hope to see the completed project in a gallery when it is finished.
