Brugges

This is a straight color scan: a trial print from a polymer plate - not what I'm really after, but I like it. I'm still trying to get a better control over the tonal range in these prints and I hope to be posting more of them soon.
Location
Brugges, Belgium
Equipment Used
Rolleiflex, image printed as etching
Film & Developer
Acros 100 D76
Paper & Developer

Even if it isn't what you wanted, it looks really good...very other worldly and old worldly...

I love it Whitey. It's full of character and it's certainly unique. A great result!

Could you elaborate a bit further on this technique? "Polymer plate"??? "Etching"???, but than I see the final print is on some sort of watercolor paper... so am I right to assume this is some kind of "bromoil" transfer type process?

I like it too! It's a wonderful image with very nice tones, and it makes me think of a print from the earliest days of photography.

Thanks folks. The actual trick is to get a picture in Brugges without twenty tourists in it!

I made a transparent positive through a process not to be named, exposed a polymer plate (KM73) with an ultraviolet light source (facial tanning unit) and then washed the plate with water. The resultant image was inked and wiped, then run through an etching press onto damp paper. I'm still looking for a fully analogue way to make the photo-positive. I haven't found a reliable source for positive print continuous tone film since Ultrafine stopped carrying it.

http://intaglioeditions.com/procedures/polymer_photogravure.html is a good source of more information. There are quite a few people out there doing it far more expertly than I. Google Susan Voss for some knock-out images.

wow, this is something else whitey!

good to see you made it back from belgium, and great to
see you making these prints!

Thanks Whitey for giving some more info. I will look up Susan Voss as well...

I am not much for anything but "straight" photography: but this image speaks with a very strong, positive voice to me. Wonderful.
