Looks like a great image but that scan lost all the sharpness. What happened?

A contact print from an 11x14 is a sharp thing, indeed. The print is painfully sharp, but the scans seem to loose it as they go from 11Mb to 500Kb. Adding the sharp filter makes it look garish, so I won't do that. The good news, any unsharpness is my scanner and your monitor. Any hints from you pro scanners? I use an Epson "Perfection" 3200 Photo and PE.

Thats the same scanner I have. I've noticed if I scan at the same resolution I want to upload it at the picture is quite soft. The ones I scan high rez and downsample seem to hold the sharpness better. At least if you add the sharp filter at the high rez it won't make the garish look in the downsampled image.
