There is a nice symmetry between the curve of the right hand edge, the wall and the figure. I'm not seeing the tonality and I may be going out of bounds, but the composition is, to my eye, disturbingly out of balance especially for an image that is staged.
Thanks for the comments!! John no book yet. Mr Callow I don't know what to say, To me there is a contrast between structural and elegance or grace. As far as tonal, this is a scan I had to choose highlight or shadow. In the print there is wonderful detail in the shadows. Especially in her back.
To me it's balanced and well laid out. But hey what is my opinion worth LOL. Great shot Thomas. Is this some of your recent work or something from the archives?
Hi Eric,
This I shot last November. I'm just kind of getting caught up scanning probably about a years worth of stuff. The photo part is fun but sitting at the computer or waiting for the scanner or getting the scans to look close to the image is a royal pain in the ### so it gets neglected.
Thomas,
I agree wholeheartedly about the structure and grace -- especially how well the edge integrates. The tones of the minuscule jpg are not anything I could see as being exemplary let alone comment on which made me question the comments others had left. It could be as much my ignorance as it is the jpg. It was not a dig at your image.
My comment regarding the composition was one I was reluctant to make. It referred to the weight of the right-hand side opposed to the left. I know I should keep my mouth (keyboard) shut when I can't be wholly positive, but it seemed odd.

Don't shut up, because everyone's opinion is worth something.
It's just that, not everyone will agree with you on this particular picture... Like others, I like the current strong formal composition of figure and background. I don't feel there is a real need for change, the only thing that slightly bothers me in the picture is maybe the fact that her right feet touches the frame... I think it might have been more natural to have just a little bit of free space and floor there.
