Fire

This was taken in a small cottage in the west of Ireland where the fire in the hearth is the central feature of the cottage. Until maybe fifty years ago, the fire would have been lit continuously for cooking, heating and staring into! I exposed for the flames and masked out extraneous detail during printing.

Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare. Ireland
Equipment Used
Sigma SA-5, 28mm-70mm zoom.
Exposure
Must start writing these down!
Film & Developer
Ilford HP5 with Agfa Rodinal
Paper & Developer
Ilford Multigrade paper with Multigrade dev.
Lens Filter
None.
Love the simplicity! Less is more :smile:
 
I like the simple composition. Is that gray line on the left side of the photo just on the scan, or is it on the print? I find that it distracts me from the fire.
I like all the black around the fire, it makes me wonder what is going on off in the blackness that I can't see.
 
Hi fingel, that line is on the print unfortunately. Bit of a mistake from the masking I was doing and I didn't notice it on the wet print. I'll take care of that the next time I run off a copy.
