What specific sorts of "digital manipulation" did you use? Probably several.....the one I notice is background over your left shoulder...not a criticism because it's very effective.

@jtk The gray background paper behind me was not too wide and the edge was behind my left shoulder, so I had to paint some more in there. Otherwise, I just did a little curves adjustment, digital dodging and burning and some retouching of my skin (I have bad rosacea).

I guess the bottom line to this rather complete personality study is to ask 'how many takes did it take"? For example, I take about 40 shots in order to placate my own ego's need for perfection when I photograph myself (or is that vanity and lack of self-effacement?). But your shot really is good and, technically, you managed to banish eyeglass reflections and present a demeanor that is far from mean. - David Lyga
