The Iron Duke.

The Iron Duke.

Erected in 1848. I wonder what The Duke of Wellington would have thought of it all in the 21st century.

Nice photo. Strangely enough it was D400 I was using when I was first surprised by the whiteness of the sky in my shots taken in Brussels when at the time of year I was expecting the sky to reflect what I saw in the sky which was more nuanced that the negs appeared to show on the day.

There are answers to the question you pose at the top but all of mine are political in nature so I'll refrain

Thanks for your comment Ken. There are answers to the question. My answers, like pentaxuser, are also political in nature so I must also refrain.

You should assemble your work and publish a book—it all adds up to an excellent portrait of Edinburgh.

(I think he’s thinking what he’s been thinking all these years: ‘How do I get down off this damn iron horse?’)

Thanks Tel. Yes I've often thought about doing something with my photographs of Edinburgh. Thing is I have so many negatives and prints stored in my darkroom I wouldn't know where to start. He's been on that iron horse for almost two hundred years. It's a popular meeting point for all kinds of demos and rallies.

I expect it’s cold and lonely up there and he’s glad of the company, irrespective of what they may be chanting. At least they’re not tourists...

And you picked the perfect vantage point—the crowd leads the eye right up to the Duke.
