This is a 4x5 polaroid for a new concept. A pilot run for the real thing. Shot polaroid and did some drawing , will probably bring it home in a couple weeks. It will have lots of dimensional changes a couple of prop changes. It needs more of an illusional vibe to it!.
This may sound odd, but you know, I like that corner with the incomplete Polaroid development. I know it's just a random thing, but maybe there's a way to use that to create the "illusional vibe." Maybe print in pt/pd, but instead of coating beyond the film borders keep the coating inside the film border.
I would say that there is a great deal of illusion here as it is.
What is it about this image that fascinates me as much as it does? I think the re-direction of interest where the model is pointing to the curve in the chair is a factor -- as well as the redundant "frames"... After staring at this for some time ... possibly the model is announcing a victory - the triumph of her own natural curves over the man-made curves of the chair...? There never was a chance of the chair winning - or even coming close.
Bravo! This image will not be forgotten for quite a while!
Eric, I can't grow a moustache for the life of my art!
David, Sorry I did not get to see you while you were close, Next time. I really like the missing corner also. As a Platnum I'm definately going to try to include it. Great thought, THANKS!.
Ed, as always, you find a way to see in, around and through things. I'm going to keep the physical comparison thought in my brain for this concepts next generation. There are some real lighting and value separation issues with this image as it stands so we are going to triumph! Poor chair never had a chance.
Boy I never thought about these images being theatrical, more like a "toy box" one that I can pick and choose and tinker all I want. The theatrical element is great,a new way of thinking for my stuff. I'm going to take it and run with it! Thanks!
Well done Thomas, I really like this. It is nice to see an image, where the nude isn't necessarily the focal point. I can't stop staring at that half face.
Thomas, I'm glad my comment about the theatricality of your work resonated with you. It was meant in a very positive way, as your work is intentionally and quite beautifully staged. The elements work off eachother well, and I'm not just speaking of this test image but of your work as a whole. Anytime an artist chooses to place certain elements together in an environment of their own creation it's staged, theatrical. Some people choose to make unnatural scene look natural, some choose to acknowledge the unnaturalness of the scene.
Your work reminds me of a dream. It seems real, yet there's a combination of elements a little too uncommon for reality. You are creating a memorable body of work. I enjoy your work very much.
