I scanned and OCR'd this information from the back of the packet:
EXTENDED RANGE FILM DEVELOPER
NO EXAGGERATED CLAIMS. The new XR-1 is a reliable one-shot film developer that combines all the advantages offered by MICROGRAIN, FINE GRAIN and SUPER SPEED developers previously marketed by Perfection. We believe XR-1 to be the most effective speed-increasing, extended-range micrograin film developer on the market. With XR-1 you can take full advantage of the inherent qualities built into the extremely fine grain and micrograin films without sacrificing fast shutter speeds.
Perfection negatives record the full tonal range of every scene without shadow deterioration or blocked highlights. Grain and resolution depend on the film you select. THE SLOWER THE FILM THE HIGHER THE QUALITY.
Note that XR-1 is the 4th developer that Bill Anneman marketed based on his patent.
I would not be surprised if XR-1 contains a smidgen of ascorbic acid in addition to the other ingredients listed in the patent information.
