In this type of picture I think it's more interesting to not give so much away. Often when we wander around and discover these shapes and shadow type of pictures we instinctively want to show the context, but when we get into a darkroom we are able to make different and often better decisions. What we have here is "look at the cool table and shadows I found", when in reality we could make it far more of an abstract and mystery by cropping out the thing that gives away the story. It's like knowing the ending of a book when we start on page one. So personally I'd crop down taking out the table part and let the shadows and diagonal highlight area be the subject and not the edge of the table. It would also be more like the other two you showed here, pictures of shapes and angles.
Thanks blanskyInteresting thoughts.I'm fairly happy with this shot, and that may be because it contains a variety of things. If I follow your suggestion, it becomes more abstract. If I crop it another way, it becomes simpler and more concrete. I kind of like the tension between concrete and abstract in the (almost) full frame you see here.
