I have gotten a lot of flack for this photo on Photo.net. I guess it is a little too "classical" for their taste. I was wondering what all you of you think.
I like it and think it works, maybe a slight tilt counter clockwise would make it appear more straight. But maybe if you cloned a few vines onto the wall, oh maybe clone a few roses and shadows as well, now that I think of it a spooky looking crow resting on the vine would also be good, oh and add a lens flare too!
Sean has a point, but so do Stan and Eric. At PN if a photograph is not heavily PS'd, they dont like it. OTOH, this print does lack "tension." Mainly because of the format, you are doing what would be a traditional LF image with a 35 mm negative, so you loose the tonality and tonal transition found in large negatives. This is a simple and effective composition that would require the photographer to showcase his abilities in the darkroom, with a small negative it is almost impossible to do.
Gotta go with Jorge ... you've seen texture and form that makes the most of the B&W medium. I think with some better lighting and darkroom technique this can make a good image. But you need larger format to make the most of your talents ;-)
I like it a lot too (maybe this is a Dutch thing?? ;-) ). This would be a great image to print using an alternative process, like Lith or the technique Jorge is currently showing us.
