I read that "CHS" stands for "Cubiccrystal Heterodispers Single-Layer", explaining the technology. I think it's redundant, and something for a tech sheet instead. Making good film emulsions is complicated, but the name of the films don't have to be overengineered.

It's not really a problem, but it would simplify the name. If you say "CHS 100" you mean the rebranded Efke 100, so with the improved film made in house they added "II" to differentiate it from the Efke film. But since this is a product of the revived Adox brand, and this film is so much better than the old "CHS 100/Efke 100" I think it deserves a better and simplified name. Adopan 100 would be in the same naming convention as Adonal, Adotol, Adostab, Adostop, Adoflo, and Adofix.

Adopan 100 sounds like a film that is here to stay, and that gives you the feeling that you can depend on it for future use. Many other products made by small companies get changes so often that photographers need to experiment a lot to find the new development times. Not just with film, but also with some developers that have come in version I, II, III and IV.

While I'm fine with the name "Adox CHS 100 II" I think it deserves the be renamed to the more stable "Adopan 100". It's only a suggestion, not a demand.

There are several reasons for the name CHS 100 II (beside the technical description):
1. The market exit of Fotokemika in 2012 came quite surprising at that time. Resulting in loosing our manufacturing source of the ADOX CHS line of films. We had to react as fast as possible, because lots of loyal CHS customers wanted a solution for their future needs. And the spectral sensitivity of the CHS films was the unique characteristic of the CHS 50 and 100 which was liked by our customers most. Therefore our intention was to design a successor for CHS 50 and 100 (CHS 100 II works excellently at EI 50/18° as well) with the same spectral sensitivity, but significant improvements in detail rendition (sharpness, resolution, grain, shape of the characteristic curve) and in production quality / QC (Made in Germany).
The name CHS 100 II was intended as a clear signal to our CHS 50 and 100 customers that we have a solution for their needs.
2. The CHS 100 II was not intended to be "the only one medium speed BW ADOX film forever" from ADOX. There are more options and plans for the long-term future. Including using different technology. And therefore also some potential product names were / are not "free" or possible for the new CHS-type film.

The name CHS 100 II for this film is meanwhile very well established for many years. Changing the film name now after all these years would lead to lots of confusion in the market and under customers, and to significant additional costs for ADOX. All that would be counterproductive for the future success of this product. It would have negative impacts on both our customers and our company.

So let's have a look at some photographs made with ADOX CHS 100 II, and developed in ADOX FX-39 II with 1+9 dilution.
This first one was shot on a very sunny day with high light contrast. The combination of the characteristic curve of the film and the semi-compensating effect of FX-39 II in 1+9 dilution works very well in such situations:

Long ago there were plans for Adox Pan 100 and Adox Pan 400. APX! They released a test run of the latter but that project has been paused, and the market is quite well covered by the other manufacturers. APX100 lives on as Silvermax and Scala.

CHSII I would like to try, in 120. Henning's samples make me wanna load a Rolleiflex, head to the Mediterranean and live la Dolce Vita. Efke was one of the oldest tech type film in the market and I bet Adox kept the good characteristics.

I am from time to time making pictures of gorgeous looking women........
There is some "mouth-to-mouth" recommendation going on: If you make portraits, and the portrayed persons are satiesfied with the results and show the photography to others, some of these "others" are contacting you then for portrait work as well.
But that is only one part of my photography.
In general I take photographs of all things I like and I am interested in: Landscapes, still-life, cars, motor-bycicles, airplanes, flowers, cities, ultra-short time shots....just to name a few.

Interesting, looking at the spectral response in the datasheet, it looks a bit like the old "Type A" panchromatic film (Filters and their Uses, W. Bradford Shank, 1939), but with extended sensitivity in the low end of the blue spectrum (or perhaps ignoring the loss in this region through the lens).

I don’t consider myself really good at portrait photography. I like to take pictures of action sports, specially skateboarding. Trains and subways are some of my favorites too. I also like to photograph trees — but not flowers, like macro stuff. I love bridges, but there are almost no cool looking ones in Brazil. Other nice subjects are old building façades, alleys, empty streets and people riding bicycles.

Which reminds me I need to scan and print more often.

Good to know . But also not so surprising considering the similarities between Dutch and German. Although I have (unfortunately) never "officially" learned Dutch, I can understand about 60-70% of Dutch texts about photography .

But back to topic, CHS 100 II. Another picture on this film from me.
I have always loved "La Linea" from Italian cartoonist Osvaldo Cavandoli. And I love riding motor-bikes.
Looks like I am not the only one (ADOX CHS 100 II, developed in ADOX FX-39 II; seen on a classic car and bike meeting).
