Two things to consider in the 'comparison' of conventional tank vs. automated roller processor...
  • There is a minimum volume of liquid simply to cover the film
  • There is a capacity of sq. inches of film that can be processed sucessfully by a given volume of liquid
Then you have the complication of whether or not you process enough rolls to use a certail volume of developer fully, or if you have to throw out a given volument of working developer to less than its capacity...and that can vary by individual or even from one session in the darkroom vs. another session!

Some folks use Jobo tanks for film, but they do not use them as horizontal rotary processors...they fill the tank for standard inversion-agitation processing. Others use the rotary process with less liquid.
