Dear photographers,

My tiny pocket computer mixed again all of us. Everybody should have a got message from me with a pair of addresses. The first block contains your own address as given to me. Please, make certain that your own address is correct. PM me as soon as possible if a correction is needed to YOUR address.
Please don't mind the numbers, I need them while "mixing" us.

The second block contains the address of your partner: You have to send your print(s) to there. Please wait a few days before sending anything to allow time for corrections. Make sure you mark your box with your name and
BPX 46
on it.

If you are unable to complete your assignment, it is understandable - life often gets in a way of our hobbies. However, it would be very helpful if you let me know so that I could change the assignment to somebody else.

If something is or seems to be wrong, please PM me.
Our timeline: Please print and send your offering till end of August 2024. This means, you have 2 months for sending it.

If you received something: Please write a few words here. Besides this, I ask you to show what you got, we are all interested in it. A smartphone shot is sufficient.

How to avoid taxes / VAT / other problems

If a sending goes outside the U.S. (or more correct: outside your country) it should be a letter, and not a parcel or similar.

Everything you simply put in the letterbox should be a letter. Anything you give at the office may induce taxes. Everything with a custom declaration will induce taxes.

Please keep in mind what "counts" as a letter in your country. In the U.S. it needs to be flexible. In Germany, it may be stiff.

Addendum April 2024: It seems that you have to give a customs declaration sending from U.S. and Canada, even if it weights more than 50 gms – even if it looks like a letter:
https://www.usps.com/international/customs-forms.htm says
You do not need a customs form if you're sending First-Class Mail International® that weighs under 15.994 oz

I have received a couple of days ago some beautiful prints from Uwe that I try to show in the picture below taken with my phone.

On the left a print capturing the sculpture called "Genesung" (Recovery) located in front of a 1925 health insurance company building, I read over internet that it is a replica of a Felix Pfeifer's original located in Dresde Rose Garden. On the right a cityscape of part of Augustusplatz showing the Kroch-Hochaus on the front and the Opera House on the right. On the bottom a lovely postcard of a norwegian fjord handwritten by Uwe.

Thanks a lot Uwe! Sorry for not reporting earlier but I was on a business travel.

Just got back from the post office.

Arrived in Norway yesterday! Two very nice prints. One of a daylily. Shot with a 4x5 camera and quite boldly printed. I like it! The other is if a field with power lines above it. Printed very differently compared to the other photograph, but it works very well.

Many thanks for the beautiful photographs!

Print sent.

Received yesterday, Mark. It sure took a long time - it could've walked here faster. Anyway, it's an excellent photo of the shadow cast by the railing at the edge of a set of stairs. In spite of the railing looking unremarkable, the shadow manages to look like some kind of crazy musical staff. I wonder what the song is?

Thanks!

Thanks Don, I was starting to wonder. I did opt for the cheap postage, "document" versus parcel, so that may have been it.

I'm more inclined to think it was just one of those things. Sometimes, it'd arrive in a few days, sometimes a few months. It arrived unbent, though.

Yesterday I received halfaman's beautiful print of the Caozo Waterfall in western Spain. And WOW, you sent it Wednesday, I received it Friday! Amazing turnaround time. But the important part is the print, and it is beautiful! The waterfall with some nice framing, and even a person with a red umbrella. The overcast day adds to the ethereal quality of the falls and the water spray around it. Excellent print, and you processed all the color yourself.

Thanks very much, Juan Carlos!

My print is finally ready, and will be dropped in the mail next Monday. It's not going to cross any ocean, so I hope it gets to its destination quite fast.

My print was sent as a tracked envelope. All I have for my tracking fee is, since two weeks, that as of 20-Aug, my letter was "on its way to destination". Nothing since. Apologies to the undisclosed recipient. Back then, a letter to a similar destination made it in 5 days.
Filed a complaint. Maybe this will wake up the machine. I am annoyed.

Dear Rui and all, I give you a mobile phone shot of the print. I very like the beautiful shades of gray in it. And of course the scene you selected. Thank you again!

Back from 2-week vacation.

Received two fine prints from Menno Spijker (Ottawa). Both slightly larger than A4, on Ilford FB. The first one is Erasmus apparently preaching to an assembly of Buddhists. Actually, yoga practitioners. An interesting meeting in the viewfinder. But my favorite is the second one, a preserved industrial complex in Duisburg. Just perfect! Reminds me of the photos used by Eastman Kodak to illustrate the virtues of their printing papers. The tonality is brilliant, fully using the range of the paper; maybe more significant is the composition, with four elements leading the eye from the foreground to the background. I tried to do proper scans, but obviously they cannot do justice to the actual prints.

On the sending side. My complaint (via internet form) reached a customer service that pretends to be deaf and blind, seems common these days. So this morning went in person to the post office where I sent my letter. With their tools they were able to tell me that my tracking sticker was last scanned in Roissy-CDG (4 weeks ago). I'll make good to the designated recipient in Burbank, but I'll probably miss the sign-up for BPX47.

Thanks Bernard, for the nice write up. I'm glad (and relieved) to see that the prints arrived. The industrial photo was from my very first infrared film (Rollei IR400 120). I was also happy with how that turned out.

Dear Bernard, signing-up next round of BPX, you only need to have sent something in the current round. You are not responsible for the peculiarities oft the postal service.
