FYI, I noticed B&H has 5222 Double X and a couple of the Vision 3 color negative films, 400 feet rolls back in stock for purchase. No sign of Ektachrome though. I managed to not impulse panic buy the way I have buying Made in Japan Subaru oil filters.
There is a minimum order
As far as I know, only DTS is setup for 70mm prints. Unless something has changed in the last decade or two. And yes 15 perf 70mm has a frame size 10 times of Academy 35mm. I remember the people at the IMAX theater telling me that, and the brochure they gave me at the time. I believe I still have that brochure, if I can find the photoalbum I stuck it in. I did interviews of viewers as well as IMAX staff at the Vancouver theater back in the day. Back in 1992, one of the staff suggested that they need to make Hollywood movies in IMAX down the road, and the rest is history. I uploaded that interview if anyone wants to hear it. I think part of the reason IMAX works so well for viewers, is because it covers almost all of your normal field of vision. 5 perf doesn't quite do that. You need height in the image as well as width, to do that. 15 perf is of course 3 times the 5 perf frame size. I have an IMAX frame from one of the space movies they made, of the shuttle bay and a satellite inside it, with Earth at the top of the frame. Beautiful shot. I talk on occassion with Andrew from Fotokem about 70mm. Nice guy. He says IMAX is closer to 12K (not 16K) in terms of the detail that makes it onto the final print. Maybe the neg has 16K, but once it gets duped over, its 12K. And their film recorder to output back to 65mm neg, is only 8K at the max. He also said most film outs are only done at 4K, even for IMAX. 8K again is their max resolution for film outs and is rarely done. Im not sure what Nolan did for his films. I did also find out the 5222 neg was optically duped over to color interpositive on Oppenheimer.
wow $110 over the price…. This has to be new. Last week it was giving me minim order requirement.
I have maybe 60 rolls of 250D left but run out of 500T. Will wait for a short end to pop out of LA.It could be some existing stock in inventory??? Who knows what has been decided. If you want these films might be a good time to buy. I have at least 300 feet Double X, I would never use the color negative film. 400D is what so many people want, not 50D.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out
DTS is a way of synchronizing Sound to Picture. But yes, if you want to see a Movie in a certian format you do have to check carefully to see if the theatre is using that method to display the movie. Some movies only display 2K and call it Digital even if the original was filmed in true IMAX size.
Yup Im aware. I've been going to "true" IMAX movies, shown in 15 perf 70mm since 1986. Our digital Cineplex theater here is all 2K rez, even for the premium theater. I dont think there are any theaters in my valley that show 4K. Its either film or 2K. Luckily only 60 km away, we have an IMAX theater that kept their 15 perf film projector, and I saw Oppenheimer in that 2 years ago. Some movies only display 2K and call it Digital even if the original was filmed in true IMAX size. When you book tickets at a large Multiplex, often the picture is being shown in differents formats and resolutions at the same time in two of their theaters. Check before buying tickets. Full IMAX is at special theaters that have floor to ceiling screens and projectors that show the original IMAX captures. Search on google for those theaters.

I got a quote from Andrew at Fotokem, that to do an 8K film out to 5 perf 65mm, for a 2 hour movie, is 160 thousand for the neg. Double that to get a 70mm print as well.
Me as well, latest (2013/14?) generation of Panasonic Plasma. Not a huge model, but great enough for our house and I love the image. In the extended family are still 2-3 more of those, mostly larger then ours.I still use the latest panasonic plasma 1080P they made after they purchased Pioneer Kuro. Still better than any other modern TVs. Even oled. Unless a wide shot resolution is plenty.
