Schreck. Bought three of the large version, two directly from Schreck, one Linhof branded. Smooth and reliable.

If you want something that you can fondle and polish, that glimmers in the moonlight and flashes in the sun — Gepe (Made in Germany) stainless steel braided cable releases! I polish mine. It makes them a lot more weather resistant too. As conversation starters these shiny little triggers are adept at attracting attention more than the twice-as-expensive all black, stiff and bulky Linhof releases.

Those Gerber-Sch... whatever releases; I had bad experiences with those many years ago — apart from the expense, and disappointment with how stiff and irksome it was, the release I used twice seized and was never to work again. Drrrrft.

I don't buy cable releases very often. I bought a handful off a fellow member in January at a camera fair, maybe a doze. And one for a Sinar shutter last year which cost me 4½x what I paid for the shutter

Prior to that I last bought cable releases about 18 years ago. around 25 for £10, a job lot at a camera fair.

Variety is useful, some shutters need long er throw releases, for instance my large Gitzo studio shutter. For LF work particularly when making multiple exposures I prefer the light cloth covered cables rather than the heavier plastic covered cable. So I have a selection in my backpack.

I've lost a few, worn out several and I am down to two so I am going to buy some more. What I like about my old Rollei is it has a self timer, which I've had to resort to several times.

I don't think I ever actually bought one on its own.
I have a bunch that came with other stuff. They are all in the process of falling apart. Some of them must be 70-80 years old. They were attached to equally old shutters. I just took one off a Premo 8 and am wondering if I can fix where the fabric is starting to break.
