For years I play with an idea to build some kind of "digital enlarger" or "film printer" using projection of LCD screen image onto the film or photo paper.
For this purpose a small LCD screen with high resolution would be needed, which was main obstacle for me.
But during recent years situation has changed. I was always aware that most suitable for this purpose would be monochrome LCD screen, but these were for long time available only as super expensive medical screens for examining digital x-ray photos.
Recently I found that monochrome 8" LCD screens as spare parts for some type of 3D printers are meanwhile available, in 4K or even 8K resolution.
Can anybody tell if they are any good for film printing? What especially bothers me is if they are able of some decent grayscale?

There's a pretty long thread about this where several people have shared their experiences so far with this.

I'd recommend giving that thread a read and if you have any additional questions not yet covered there, append them in the linked thread.
