hey guys hope you can help me
i bought my first film camera, the olympus mju ii but it wont turn on at all.
the camera is in great condition but it just wont turn on when i place battery and film it in... like nothing at all, no signs of life.
i have googled it and all they say is the battery is dead
Is this camera just entirely broken? Is it an issue with another part of the camera? Any suggestions?
Thanks
Secondly, if battery contacts look ok, check the on/off switch that is operated by the lens cover slide.
Perhaps opening and closing it several times might clean the contacts just enough to get it running again if it hasn't been used for ages. But that's a bit of a long shot, as manually cleaning the contacts with something like alcohol is always best.
Otherwise it might come down to opening the camera up and see if you can find anything wrong inside if you're feeling confident enough.
Or if not, find someone who can do it for you.
I bet it costs you quite a bit of money. Just follow the instructions in the manual and if that doesn't work return it. Don't bother to find someone to fix it as doing so you will ended up losing the money you spent buying it.
That would be my thought as well given the prices these presently command. Either you pay a low price and pretty much know for sure that the camera is broken. Or you pay a regular going rate, in which case the investment is big enough to be a picky customer if the camera doesn't end up being perfect.
If you can, return the camera. These are, in general, unrepairable.
That said, as others have suggested, suspect battery and contact problems. Try a second battery - even 'new' batteries can be bad. Clean the contacts even though they look OK - a pencil eraser can clean the contact buried in the battery compartment.
