Very sorry to hear this news. He will be missed.

In addition to the loss of a great man, a lot of irreplaceable knowledge has also been lost. In some ways, this represents a passing of the golden age of photography.

Deeply saddened by Ron's passing away. I'm indebted to his generosity and timely technical help on the several occasions I reached out to him for advice. As recently as mid January he had responded to my questions on reciprocity in reversal processing. Ron's posts on this forum are a treasuremine of technical knowledge and practical wisdom. Just this morning I was reading and assimilating his post on paper reversal. I'm sure his posts will continue to be the guiding light for many of us in the future too. It is sad and painful to loose someone like Ron, a kind person who loved sharing his copious knowledge and rich experience unselfishly. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

What Ron didn't know, he would either find out, test, or reason out. In the entire history of photography, nobody of his stature has been so willing to share, unreservedly, his knowledge with the public. That is what made him matchless, that generosity--and his astonishing courage in making the unprecedented jump from company activity to public activity. Nor, as someone else has pointed out, could ill health stop him. He was helping me with FDC2 right up to the day the final manuscript was submitted this past October. What a heart! He was a great and irreplaceable man.

a gentle-man and a professional in every respect. analog photography and the planet are a lesser place now. my heartfelt condolences to his family -- however, they can take comfort knowing the admiration and total respect he had among all in this community.

I'm so sorry to hear of PE's passing. His posts on APUG/Photrio and elsewhere will be a huge legacy to his skill, knowledge and dedication as a photographic chemist.

Rest in peace, Ron. Thank you.

I just saw this and feared it was coming. My heart is heavy right now, for the loss his family is enduring and the reality Ron will not be here to chime in with his wisdom and wit. I knew Ron battled some health issues for a while, often discussed in our chats at times. The emails gradually became more spaced out. Some of what he described, well it was amazing how he kept battling on and he also continued to be a good friend to this community in ways far too long to list. I wish I could have had some way to say goodbye and thank him for his contributions. I know he was working on some material so we will see if there is anything we can do to help preserve this. Ron, you will be missed my friend.

I don't find words about losing Ron as a fellow member and appreciated contributer in APUG (photrio).

For the decade since I've been around here, as a teenager, I've appreciated his continuous dedication and sharing of knowledge in the site. I am glad that he acknowledged our appreciation of him being in here despite the occasional hardships other members proposed during discussions and the casual. He will be sorely missed but always remembered; his experience and resources have been invaluable. Thank you Ron, thank you PE.

Terrible news. So knowledgeable, helpful and passionate. If he didn't know it, nobody did. I remember him admonishing me for using old, expired, questionably-stored film to learn C41 processing. It was like getting yelled at by somebody else's dad.

I am at the height of sadness, crying and wailing.
I asked you about it last week, but you doubted my inquiry.
My heart was not comfortable with his absence.
This is a black day in the history of analog photography.
- I will release photographic acids on the Egyptian market, and I will call them (PE) as a registered trademark. In honor of the name of this great chemical scientist.

From online discussions I had the impression he was suffering ill health so was always amazed and very appreciative when he responded so comprehensively and with such attention to myself and others here.

Oh my, this is such sad news. Ron was such a wealth of information and knowledge. We. had many wonderful conversations in the chat room in the early days of APUG. He was such a gentleman.

Very sad news. Condolences to Ron's family, friends, and extended photographic family.

This hits me very hard. After taking an emulsion workshop with Ron and Mark Osterman, Ron became somewhat of a mentor to me - through hundreds of emails,PMs, and phonecalls, he guided me through emulsion making, usually not with direct answers to my questions, but pointing in me in the right direction, suggesting expermiments, and providing feedback on results. He even coaxed me into (re)learning calculus! Along the way, I got to know Ron as a man of many interests, a wickedly sharp wit, and a gentle and generous soul.

I cannot put into words how much Ron inspired me, and how very grateful I am for knowing him.

This is sad, sad news...
We have lost a well of knowledge, and more than that, a kind and helpful person.
My condolences to his family and close friends.
He told me once he lived shortly in France, when working for Kodak, so I would say : Adieu, Ron.
