In addition to the loss of a great man, a lot of irreplaceable knowledge has also been lost. In some ways, this represents a passing of the golden age of photography.
What Ron didn't know, he would either find out, test, or reason out. In the entire history of photography, nobody of his stature has been so willing to share, unreservedly, his knowledge with the public. That is what made him matchless, that generosity--and his astonishing courage in making the unprecedented jump from company activity to public activity. Nor, as someone else has pointed out, could ill health stop him. He was helping me with FDC2 right up to the day the final manuscript was submitted this past October. What a heart! He was a great and irreplaceable man.
