Hey,
just came into the posession of an SX-70 from 1976 with the 6th Flash Inihibit Shutter. I previously managed to overhaul two SX-70 of friends with a lot of help from the internet by Youtube videos and the repair service manual, so I can of gained a rough picture what to expect. An extraordinary task there was the cleaning of the light sensor (if there's interest I can write post with pictures showing the process, even though someone already documented it (#1, #2)).
Because I like to repair old cameras in my free time, and I didn't have an own SX-70, I wanted one for myself. Found a good offer online of this SX-70 in good condition. Yes, it had some flaws of which I thought they will be easily fixable. Yea, right! Unfortunately I find my self in a dead end, which is why I'm writing this post, seeking help and advice from some of you technical experienced guys.
I'm referring to the switches in the SX-70 from the service manual. There are various online sources, e.g. this source. When inserting a cartridge with sufficient voltage (~5.8V) the camera is not responding at all. Measuring S6 in an unfolded state shows the it is closed. Regarding the counter switches S8 is closed an S9 is open. The gear switches S3 and S5 are closed and the front door switch S7 is closed as well. From this description the camera should eject the dark slide. However, it does not. Curiously, when I manually turn the gears such that the mirror flips up, the camera cycles through and flips the mirror down again. You can hear the motor running with no ill sounds whatsoever. The counter is now on "10" and S8 is also now open. Pressing the shutter (thus operating with S1) shows no action. I could exclude the shutter button as a problem source.
If I repeat this step (manual gear turning), the camera won't cycle again. This can be reversed by ejecting the cartridge, thus the counter resets to ejection mode, and repeating the manual gear turning (or indefinitely with an external power source and not inserting any cartridge at all). With the description of the switches behaviour, I cannot make out the problem. This is very curious. The various online sources of the manual show a fail chart behaviour in the end. However, these sources are not of the best scanning quality and thus you cannot make out what is written for "Dark slide ejection mode", "Ambient exposure mode" or "Flash mode".
Has someone an idea where the problem lies? What did I not consider? Has someone a higher-res scan of the manual in order to use the fail charts?
Looking very forward to your answers!
Best wishes
