Howdy Folks, just wanted to introduce myself and say hi as a new member. Just finished moving to Florida from Denver. Have been a "dyed in the wool" film buff for over thirty years favoring B&W particularly. I enjoy using all 35mm film cameras, having no particular favorite brands, models, well that's a different story ... lol. I have quite a few legacy cameras some going back to as far as my second year in college, 1979, with my Canon A-1 and AE-1 Program. Some of my most recent purchase have been a Minolta XD-11, Nikon F-3/T, Nikon F-6 (due to arrive on Monday!!!). The New F-1 is the one I tend to reach for the most frequently, amongst a few others.

I have had an issue though I was hoping the group might be able to help with ...

Been dealing with some unusual behavior, out of the blue, with my F1 when the Motor Drive FN and AE finder are in place.

I get a very short amount of needle movement from the lower scale while in Aperture Priority, i.e. range of motion is between 1/4 and 1/8 sec. only regardless of the aperture. Batteries are fresh alkalines, finder contacts wiped, proper installation of finder and drive confirmed. Operates the same while stopped down also. Nothing else seems to be out of sorts, Shutter Priority works fine; metering on the right hand scale appears to be dead on. Can't think of anything else I've missed. Any assistance that can be provided would be appreciated very much.

Hey Tim, welcome!

I have the New F1 but no motor drive so I can't reproduce the scenario you describe. I'm sure someone here on APUG will chime in with an answer.

We're about more than hardware here. If you subscribed, take a look at the Media tab. You'll see gorgeous images shot on 35mm equipment like yours. There are also endless discussions on film chemistry and paper. Not to mention everything else that's even vaguely related to film.

As luck would have it, the problem self corrected!! I don't care how or why, just happy it's no longer an issue!

A warm welcome Tim I think you will find that with the Alkaline battery pack attached to the Motor drive FN the slowest permissible speed is 1/60 sec, if you need slower shutter speeds down to 1/8 sec you need one of the Ni-Cad battery packs.

Welcome Tim you are trying to beat the machine, according to the Canon Manual the slowest shutter speed you are supposed to use with the alkaline battery pack FN attached to the New F1 is 1/60 sec.if you need slower speeds you need to buy one of the Ni-Cad battery Packs FN and a charger which will give shutter speeds down to 1/8 sec.
