Canon FD Group

Favorite FD lens?

#1
Mine is the 24mm f1.4. Good for astrophotography, cave shots, landscape and some indoors shots...

What is yours?

I don't have all that many to choose from, but if I'm only taking one lens and can stand the bulk and weight, I go with my 35-105 f/3.5 macro. If the light is low, the old reliable 50mm 1.4 I bought the camera with is the ticket. I've been tempted to add to my FD lenses, but in truth, these days I shoot mostly medium format (and the technology that shall not be named), so I tend to back off spending more money as a matter of practicality.

Good morning, BenjiBoy;

I have a Canon Pellix-QL, and the optimum lens for use with the reduced light coming to the viewfinder screen because of the half-silvered mirror was the 58/1.2 lens. And, I also like that particular focal length due to its more natural perspective. Yes, it actually is an FL lens, but finding one of the Canon FD 55mm f:1.2 lenses is a challenge.

probably will have to say the 50mm 1.4... but also i really like my 35mm 2.8. because it's good enough, and its tiny and cost me a whopping $13! i read somewhere that it is the lightest FD lens.

Ralph Javins- I don't know if you know this, but the FL 55mm f1.2 lens can't be used on the Canon New F1 according to the instruction manual, just in case you ever consider buying one.

I have several FD lenses I'm quite fond of, but I have to say that my favorite is my 85mm f/1.2 SSC Aspherical. My 50mm f/1.4 SSC comes in a close second.

I now have a new favourite lens the FD 20-35 f3.5 L lens. which covers 20,24,28, and 35 mm gives prime lens quality and saves about four and a half pounds in weight against carrying the prime lenses.

the 50mm 3.5 macro is my everyday lens on my F1
looking to get a 100mm f4 macro and a 500 f8 reflex mirror lens soon
the 50mm f1.4 on my A1 is a great lens also

I like the 35 - 105 f3.5 macro too Dave, but as you write, it's not light, however, I do like the like the fact it stays in focus when you zoom it.

Ah, a blast from the past.
Truth be told, in spite of what I said back then, since 2013 I have added a couple of FD lenses -- a Canon 70-2010 f/4 "one touch" zoom, and for my solar eclipse expedition in 2017, a 100-300mm f/5.6 zoom. I even added a right angle finder attachment and a 2x-B teleconverter for the latter exercise.

(I got images!)

Is there a valid reason why the Canon FL 58 f1.2 is NOT recommended to be used on any of the Canon A bodied cameras.? I used it stopped down on my A1 and the photos turned out fine before I read the instruction manual which states that this lens is NOT usable.

I can't get on with one touch zoom lenses Dave, I find it impossible the way humans are consructed to zoom the lens and not put it out off focus.
