GAF Type 2863

#1
.
Hello Expired Members !

I have a box of GAF Type 2863 4X5 Film that I've been sitting on for a few years.
I thought that the ASA Rating was 400, now that I checked the box there isn't an
ASA Rating ... The " Develop Before Date " Is 1974. Any information and exposure,
and processing advice available from you fine folks ?

P.S.:

What is the oldest film that you have in your collection ?

I have a roll of Tri-X 120 from 1969 !
I'm hoping to buy a box of KodaChrome 4X5, or 8X10 one of these days.

Thanks for creating this group John !

hi ron!
pleasure was mine .. i
i bought a bunch of film a few years ago
all 8x10 and wicked expired, its sitting in boxes in my darkroom on the shelf
i think it is from the early 70s/ late 60s
i've been meaning to pull them out, load them and expire them
but unfortunately life gets in the way sometimes.
i don't think i have things much older than that .
except for some dry plates in a box
"vintage" :wink:

oh, regarding your film ...

http://www.apug.org/forums/forum37/89971-gaf-pro-b-w-film-type-2863-a.html
suggests it was iso 500!
i think folks suggest halfing the iso for every 10 years
so you are down around ( 250, 125, 60, 30 ) maybe iso 30?

no idea what to process it in, maybe something strong and fast like print developer with potassium bromide
i'd do short and sweet so maybe dektol 1:5 for 5 mins ? or if you have ansco130 1:6 for 6mins ...

have fun !

Sounds like an interesting group. I am more of a collector rather than a serious user of this stuff.

Ron, the oldest roll of film that I have is a roll of Kodak Super XX, Type 51 (for Graflex Roll Film Holders) that expired November 1, 1943. I have six more rolls of the same film that expired November 1949.

I have:
One Kodak Plus-X Film Pack (PX520, 2-1/4x3-1/4) with an expiration of February 1947.
One Kodak Verichrome (not Verichrome Pan) Film Pack (V518, 3-1/4x4-1/4) with an expiration of April 1948.
One Kodak Verichrome (not Verichrome Pan) Film Pack (V520, 2-1/4x3-1/4) with an expiration of August 1948.
One Kodak Plus-X Film Pack (PX520, 2-1/4x3-1/4) with an expiration of July 1950.
One Kodak Super-XX Film Pack (XX520, 2-1/4x3-1/4) with an expiration of January 1955.
One Kodak Super-XX Film Pack (XX518, 3-1/4x4-1/4) with an expiration of May 1955.
One Kodak Verichrome Pan Film Pack (VP520, 2-1/4x3-1/4) with an expiration of May 1958.

I have:
One box of Kodak Sheet Film Super Panchro Press Type B in 3-1/4x4-1/4, expired October 1949.
One box of Kodak Sheet film Commercial Ortho in 2-1/4x3-1/4, expired April 1951.
One box of Kodak Sheet film Panatomic-X in 2-1/4x3-1/4, expired February 1951.
One box of Kodak Sheet Film Super-XX Panchromatic in 3-1/4x4-1/4, expired March 1955.
One Box of Kodak Royal Pan in 3-1/4x4-1/4, expired in March 1959.

I also have a bunch of others from the '60s, 70's and '80s.

That's an excellent collection !

My ultimate collectors item would be a box of 8X10 KodaChrome !
But, I would settle for a box of 4X5 KodaChrome . . .

Ron,
I remember that before Dwayne's shut down the processing line, there was a box of 10 sheets of 3-1/4x4-1/4 Kodachrome that sold on eBay. I put in a bid, but the final price was around $300 if I remember correctly.
