Silver Gelatin Emulsion Makers

How to start ... Again!

#1
This is odd. I thought posting was limited to subscribers.
Is anyone there?
I just finished a project and now want to do something about dry plate. I think I have everything. I'd like to make an emulsion and coat a big glass plate like 8x12.
What, where, is a simple recipie to use?
Thanks.

Hi, Michael,
Great to see you are re-starting. There are a number of good, simple recipes. Many people like Mark Osterman's recipe. It's on The Light Farm. I have had excellent success with my adaptation of Kodak's AJ-12 and even better success with a tweak I made by substituting ammonium bromide for the potassium bromide. I call it "AmBr" (pronounced "amber"). A great many of today's happy dry plate photographers are using the AmBr recipe.

More recipes and very detailed instructions are in my book: http://www.blurb.com/b/6465389-the-light-farm
Good luck and fun.

Hi DW,
Glad to be back. Thanks for writing.
Some Potassium Iodide was ordered from Photographer's Formulary. A special DEA form had to be filled out and my ID presented by email to them in order to get it! It seems that ever more chemicals are needed.
I found that Osterman article by accident from links on my big computer, then could not find it on my iPad. Here is a link to it. It is the one with the negative and positive of an old house at the start.

It won't print nicely. At least it didn't. Now I can study it.
