Sinar Users

Introduction.

#1
I didnt know the group existed. I have been using a Sinar since 1983. Im a professional industrial photographer. I currently own 2 and half Sinar cameras. An F, a P and half a Norma. All 5 x 4 Im happy to advise any one as I have extensive knowledge of them including service and repairing them. My first advice is if you buy one and it feels stiff, do not force the gears. The damage is quick and expensive to repair. The grease solidifies so when you force it especially on the rear standard you can damage the gears and the depth of field scale. I look forward to meeting you guys.

I can attest to the danger of using force when the knobs are stiff. I was lucky, and managed to find a replacement for the plastic (Delrin?) rack that I'd broken some teeth off of. Replaced it myself, and cleaned and lubricated everything while I was at it. The P in question is working very well now. (And yes, it was the rack for tilting the rear standard that I carelessly damaged.)

You were lucky. Sinar isnt supplying spares easily now. Unfortunately many of the Sinars for sale on ebay are sold buy people who dont even know how to set them up. So they are sold with a lot of damage. Another problem of the hardened grease is it forces the side panel open due to the slide sticking to one side of the casing. They need proper servicing and the tensions need to be set to the correct poundage so the movements feel and flow as they should.
Im glad yours is working well. They are in my opinion a proper camera. I had a P2 but I prefer the P nostalgic reasons nothing more.
