Hi,

I need to test a roll of 120 film for dev times, but unfortunately I don't have a test strip, so I am planning to skip one photo after the roll is loaded in the camera and then cut it off in the changing bag while loading my tank and then use that piece to do tests. I want the piece from the free end, where the film is not taped to the backing paper.

Is it the first photo or the last? If I am correct it would be the last photo.

The film at the opposite end of the taped end is the last of the film, correct.

I remember this by imaging the film being dragged through by the tape. Thus tape end is the beginning 🤔 .

620 film used tape at both ends due to the tiny diameter of the 620 spool.

Since you need some margin/buffer, you probably need to devote two frames in order to test one.
I sometimes cut a half-exposed 120 film, being curious to see the pictures before the roll is finished; in that case I cut in the middle of an empty (buffer) frame, and re-position the adhesive band. Then roll tight on the supply side, and "shoot" until frame N+1.
