Lets break this out; not to whine but to see just what it would cost if 5 people wanted 10 rolls each in the US and one person acted as the purchasing agent.

50 rolls is 504 Euro.
Shipping is 39.75 Euro.
End amount in USD: $619.15 or $12.39 per roll.

If you wanted to split 50 rolls amongst 5 people, there are the additional PayPal fees and shipping from the central buyer to the other purchasers.

10 rolls @ $123.90
PayPal Fees of about $4.00
Shipping to secondary purchaser -- $5 to $20 depending upon "urgency"

$132.90 to 147.90 total or $13.29 to $14.90 per roll.

No compensation for the initial buyer's time/effort or the additional fees to this buyer to extract the funds from PayPal...

In the end, it's not all that bad but the initial buyer would have to have iron clad guarantees of purchase from the other 4 participants.

I'm gonna guess that Adox can very well afford to let things go they way they are, the U.S. market might not be all than necessary to them.

Maybe the supply and demand will work out great for them as is.

Except now they're charging more than US$60 to get a couple rolls of film from Berlin into US Postal System. Recent report is this is taking less than two weeks now, but that cost is excessive.
37.65 Euros converts to $43.25 US, not "more than $60." Not inexpensive, but, given the world's situation right now, not what I consider "excessive."

If the supply and demand are adequate we will see this at Freestyle and others. By Adox selling direct they maximize the revenue targeted for R&D. I am waiting for customer photos.

Umm, yes it is. I've shipped more than "a couple rolls of film" to the UK and China for less in the past year.

No, it isn't. It might be what you consider excessive, but not what I do.

What has been your cost to have "a couple of rolls of film" shipped to you from Germany in the past year? Not from ADOX, but from any individual or entity there? How about Japan? I recently purchased a small lens cap from Japan that cost $11 but incurred a shipping charge of $33.

I've read that Fotoimpex is working on this, but at the corporate level, it's not as simple as going to the UPS Store instead of FedEx Kinko's (or vice versa) to ship the orders. Worse, I think I recall that there are limited options just to get international shipment out of Germany.

Not so sure about the latter, last year i bought from germany about 3 or 4 times, using deutsche post (which is operated by DHL inside germany but then changes hands to the post office on the destination country/etc), and also using FedEx if i recall correctly.

I wasn't shipping film from Germany, but in one case I shipped a box full of stuff weighing a few, maybe 3-4, pounds to Europe for around $30ish via USPS. That box probably would have held several dozen rolls. Two rolls of film fitting in a small padded envelope should not cost $42. Well, I suppose it will cost that, but I won't pay it. I'd rather spend more of my money on actual film than shipping costs that benefit nobody but DHL. Thing is, I'd spend $65 on film, but not that on a mere 2 rolls and shipping.

I guess you ought move to Europe, convince FOTOIMPEX to move to the U.S. and then order film from here to Germany. That's the only way your experience could become relevant to ADOX COLOR MISSION shipping cost.

What a nonsense.

Sending a 1kg parcel from the USA to Germany costs 4-times as much as the other way round
For a 5kg parcel it still is 2-times.

Add to this that you Americans do not pay VAT and customs duties...

Correct. You are right. Shipping from here USA to Germany is a lot more expansive.
But my point is different. DHL from Asia or eastern europe through DHL is a lot cheaper than DHL from Germany to USA. DHL from Germany is extremely expansive.

Purchase Tax (VAT) of 20% plus shipping to the U.K. - no longer part of the EU - makes it a hard sell. Unfortunately I will probably sit this one out, sadly.

And when did you not have to pay VAT (and shipping)?

Let's say, our bith points is that shipping costs vary vastly over regions and directions, and that it is hard to understand why.

I think the color pallet is amazing and unique without being obnoxious.

Kudos to Adox!

Did I say or imply that?
Just to clarify, with the U.K. no longer being part of the custom union, vat is levied. Shipping is a separate cost and varies with the buggeration added by the transport companies, with their lorries have to queue days on end negotiating customs clearance. Airmail might be more predictable in terms of delivery cost. Bizarrely it’s more predictable importing from Japan and I avoid anything from the EU.
Very sad situation.
