Color Mission seems to have been out of stock for a while now. When was the last time you have seen this film for sale? Im out and I'd like to get another order for 3 rolls. I wish I could order more than 3 though.

I bought three rolls (of the nominally ISO 200 stuff, not the slow Helios) in December '23: someone mentioned that it had reappeared in stock, in the thread about Phoenix. I was excited to get some, but I kind of wasted it. I see at the Adox Instagram account they announced some had been released into stock in February 2024.

Color Mission 200 has now been out of stock for >6 months, and there has been no word of when or whether Helios will be released.

@ADOX Fotoimpex some clarity on the status of these products would be appreciated

In the german aphog forum Mirko, the head of adox, posted beginning of march the information that the master rolls are in the cool storage and can't be sliced because of a manpower issue...
Despite I wasn't happy the thread drifted quickly into politics i really apperciated Mirko`s frankness and i hope he will not be disencouraged to share further information....

And won't be for another 3 years (if my admittedly poor German didn't let me down)!

This film will be 10 years old when they start cutting it again?! Geez Louise!!!

I mean, can we somehow raise the money and pay Adox to have this film converted by someone who knows how to do this in a professional manner? I mean this film, even though not technically better than Kodak C-41 films, is more than good enough for everybody and has so much going for that it really is a crime to let it rot away...

Send it to Harman and then charge 20 EUR per roll for it to recover the additional costs.

I don't believe enough people are willing to pay so much for Adox Color Mission.

It is really a desaster they rely on one single person to run that complex machine. This causes multiple delays in manufacturing. Adox HR-50 in 120 for example will not be coming soon for the same reason. Too bad.

But Orwo can somehow make it work with 19 EUR for a roll of the shittiest film ever produced?

(erm, correction, second shittiest film, because as we all know, Orwo NC500 takes that crown...)

I can work with "most character".

And joking aside, we gain more from bad films that we can buy than from good ones that we can't.

We better collect some cash - it's Germany after all, nur bares ist wahres - to make it attractive for that guy to come back some time.

No idea how many film you could convert in one week actually, I'm curious now.

You can get some hints in that thread. Although, that thread is as bizarre as it gets, so who knows...

I work for a small company that has very few personnel overlaps in the fields each of us cover. Yet, something like that could never happen. Even if one or more of our employees died suddenly.

Anyway, a terrible shame about CM200. I'm down to 4 rolls and then it's the boring Kodak stuff all the way with an odd roll of Phoenix or '92...

You probably do something less complex than us. If we had personel overlap for every single step in the production we needed about 3-4 times more people which ofcourse we cannot afford as we are not even breaking even (fully) with current staff. So we prioritise. What people might habe gotten wrong here is that the COLOR MISION I is not affected by this. This stock is sold. Our prioritising is always to keep a product in the channel. What is not available is a follow up product never released to the market up to this point. It´s release is now affected by the staffing problems. As far as we know there is also no one capable of doing the job for us. There was a company in the past but that´s all history now. What we do here is really almost rocket science but we do it with only 25 people 😎

Undoubtably. And if you are in a business that needs 4 people on standby to replace a potential absence of one person, then that must suck indeed. We manage with like 0.2 or 0.3 at worst.

Well, then I most definitely got it all wrong. I was under the impression that there is still some Color Mission I left that won't be cut into rolls for like next 3 years. I'm happy that you managed to sell it all under your own terms and without using external help which would probably cut into your profits. At the same time extremely sad that it's now gone forever.

So this "situation" is now tied to Color Mission II (or the stepping stone to it) aka Helios which you won't be able to cut into rolls but you will be able to do at least some work on improving the emulsion during that time?

Film manufacturing is very complex and involves many steps. Most of them in difficult conditions. This makes training extra challenging. In the beginning we had one guy who had been trained by the old industry and who could do it all in finishing. When he was aproaching retirement it became clear that with younger staff and their likeliness to change jobs in shorter intervals, we needed to break down production steps into smaller chunks in order to speed up training. This is actually quite successfully reached and works in most areas similar to your quota. There are only a few things left which currently heavily depend on a "specialist". These are often the things that need to be done in total darkness and involve high risks of destroying a lot of capital in short time if done wrong. The slitter was such a "thing" because it was just being implemented and not yet actually done on a regular basis. It also runs fast and can cut (or ruin) thousands of EUR per minute.

So this "situation" is now tied to Color Mission II (or the stepping stone to it) aka Helios which you won't be able to cut into rolls but you will be able to do at least some work on improving the emulsion during that time?

Correct it´s about the Helios. It is coated and in the coolhouse and currently cannot be slit into pancakes until either the employe returns from the parential leave or we solve the problem in a different way.😉

I wanted to add that with company growth the separation of labour increases and these challenges will eventuall be less. So it´s not that this has to be like this forever but in the past it was a lot worse and often slowed us down for years.

Thanks for all your explanations!

How do you slit BW master rolls? Same machine but it’s easier since it doesn’t require total darkness?

We do not. We have stock of slit rolls. The light is the same. Only photopaper can be slit under ADOX Supersafe lamps. This is btw. the reason why we developed them ;-)
