Agitation using roll film tanks - A description of how I approach inversion agitation of roll film tanks

On the subject of agitation, it is important to arrive at a method that does a good job of randomizing the movement of fluid in your tank, while still being a method that is easy to accomplish consistently and repeatably.
For any sort of agitation, you want the solution to essentially tumble through the film and the reel. The tank should both invert and twist as well, and you should be able to hear the liquid move. I get the right sort of movement if I grab the top of the tank with one hand...

Matt, good information. Turbulence is extremely important, equally important is the volume of chems in the tank. Many people mistakenly over fill the tanks thinking they will eliminate any possibility of surge marks or undeveloped edges. You need a certain amount of air in the tank to facilitate proper turbulence and even development. Also, with plastic tanks, many times I've seen where people leave out the center core lock that prevents the reels from climbing the core, resulting an underdeveloped edge, which then makes them over fill their tanks.
