I have a subscription to Aperture and I find that I absolutely LOVE about 2 out of 4 issues each year, and the other two I like well enough. It has a lot of art world stuff in it which I happen to like- exhibition and book reviews, plus at least 2 or 3 essays that focus on a particular artist or movement, and of course portfolios. So if you like that kind of stuff then it's great, if not, you might want to skip it. You can order a gift subscription for $20/year, which is half the normal price and less than the student rate.

How about Aperture? No gear-talk as far as I have seen. I don't have a subscription but my library does and I go in now and again and read a few issues. I got the latest black and white and it's got some fantastic images in it, but also some that I'm incredulous about. Some could be HDR, some heavily manipulated, etc. I know it should be all about your reaction to the image itself, not how it was made, but I still wonder.

CONTACT SHEET published by Light Work, never heard it mentioned on here...interesting portfolios of new work, beautifully printed.
Also COLOR seems to be off to a good start and LIGHT LEAKS is good as well.

New Photo Publication

As one who is planning to launch a new hard-copy magazine dedicated to pinhole photography, I find the comments here quite interesting.

How about this ... what would you like to see in a photography magazine?
Be specific please.

Modern Painters has a fair bit of interesting photography, mixed in with other contemporary arts coverage. Unsurprisingly it tends to cover art rather than fine art photography, but that's no bad thing in itself, and I like reading about photography as part of an overall arts scene, instead of as in isolated activity.

There's a cool little mag about toy camera photography called Light Leaks. It's expensive, and not all the photography is my cup of tea, but it's light years away from the digital camera catalogs that pass for mainstream photo mags today. PC Photo? Seriously. : (

On top of Blind Spot and Aperture, I would add:

PREFIX Photo is a pretty interesting, if rather academic, Canadian publication on photography.
http://www.prefix.ca/

Also of interest, bilingual, and from Québec, is CV (formerly Ciel Variable).
http://www.cielvariable.ca/index.htm

Daylight magazine is a more political kind of publication, mostly revolving around photo projects on particular issues (social, economical, human rights, etc).

FOAM is a Dutch publication from the FOtografiemuseum from AMsterdam (hence the name), in English, with very thick, thematic, and I think quarterly issues:
