Can someone educate me about this lens defect? Would you buy a lens that had it?

I'm wondering what xauses the little spots you can see in the front section but not in the rear section? I have seen even more obvious examples than this described as EX++++. How much effect does it have on picture quality and would you buy a lens with this?

It won't affect image quality. If the price was right I would buy one with this condition without hesitating.

Black paint that is coming off the edge of the lens elements. Doesn't bother the image looks terrible 😕

That's a very mild case of Schneideritis. People have had lenses with almost all paint lost around the edges of lens elements but had no complaints about how the lenses performed. So it's mostly cosmetical. In theory, severe Schneideritis could affect contrast.

Exactly. It would have to get very bad before it had any appreciable effect on image quality, and the only thing you'd see is a tiny decrease in contrast, which is irrelevant in practice.
