Day before yesterday I went to Fujifilm Square mainly for seeing and actually touching the new GF670 camera that they are going to release soon (as you know, the release of this camera was postponed to end of April due to overwhelming numbers of pre-order that they didn’t expect, which I think it is true that they had large amounts of orders, since I did notice when I discussed with the popular camera shop in Japan, I have informed from the shop that they already had problems with too much pre-orders so the release will be postponed to April/May “BEFORE” the Fujifilm official announcement … I won’t discuss about GF670 any more in this thread).
Note that Fujifilm Square is located at the Headquarters of Fujifilm (Roppongi, Tokyo).
They displayed T64 in their showroom so I asked about T64.
They said that “there should be no announcement from us” to discontinue T64.
Then I asked, “Are you sill making it?”…“Yes”
Well I see that expiation date for the T64 stock in Yodobashi camera isn’t that different than of the other Fuji reversal film stocks in the same store.
Sometimes I see rumor about discontinuation of film products in the net.
One rumor that I saw in the net (in Japanese, a year ago or so) was the very popular reversal film (far more popular than the T64) actually was in the state of danger of discontinuance in the past.
If this really happened, this had be a real shock for us for sure.
Well anyone can speculate, even I can speculate why that kind of rumor is coming out, but that is merely a speculation.
I think if Fujiflim really made a “final decision as a company” to discontinue T64, which is the Fujifilm product and made by Fuji, Fujifilm will “officially” announce to discontinue.
Also as you may notice, Fuji once has officially announced to discontinued Single 8 movie color film (R25N and RT200N).
Storm of opposition came to Fuji, letting to continue to make the film and maintain the lab to process that film (with some increase in price).
I still see that film in Yodobashi.
PS:
Unfortunately the DNP CENTURIA FILM (Color Negative, Kodak OEM) is discontinued, and you can see it discontinued in DNP fotolusio web site.
Also I didn’t see any DNP CENTURIA FILM in Yodobashi camera in Shinjuku any more.
