I remember heated discussions about those stickers even back in the 1980s. Good for me, back then I only used German cameras. Except for my Yashica Mat (which I bought new; with a sticker on it!) I had no Japanese cameras!

The day will come when well-preserved golden stickers will sell for top prices on eBay.

Everything that becomes scarcer increases in value 🥳

You could spend a lot more time with the camera.

There is still dirt under and in the hot shoe, maybe even corrosion since it is made of metal:

Disassembly is not that easy because the unit consists of several parts and cables also come off the inside:

The inside of the top cover is additionally covered with transparent plastic film above the prism, presumably to insulate the circuit board there:

In terms of functionality, you could leave it as is if the flash on the camera works.

It is of course possible that corrosion may spread there. But then you would have to completely disassemble the entire camera and look through it.

That would of course be a nice project, you would learn a lot from it.

But you have to set limits, otherwise you'll get lost in projects whose purpose is questionable 😶

Ah the old “Naval Jelly” type rust remover is strong acid. Not that stuff.

“Evapo-rust” is a new kind of rust remover. It works by chemically binding to the rust.

I didn’t use it first on cameras, I used it on this vulcanizer, which had been completely rusted.

Ah, of course that's something different. I have just read the product information 😌

The product is also available in Germany and Austria. The smallest pack size is one liter.

I just ordered it and will report back.

Thanks for the tip!

Just yesterday I was using a new-to-me rust remover available in USA called "Metal Rescue." I used to use Navel Jelly, but wanted to try this liquid. I actually bought the Metal Rescue to try on camera parts. I used it yesterday on the rusty fasteners before putting my restored electric sun visor back on my car. Seemed to work oK but weak. I'm not sure if it was much better than just using a wire brush.

CRC is a good brand, maybe the EVAPORUST shown by Bill is better.
